Elgin-'Darko a good playoff preview
You want to see a State tournament caliber game before the State tournament? Well, you're in luck.
Tuesday night marks round two of a pair of Class 4A heavyweights when No. 7 Elgin (15-2) hosts No. 4 Anadarko (17-2) for a 6:30 p.m. tipoff.
If their first meeting which Elgin narrowly won 48-46 back on Dec. 5 is any indication, this one will come down to the wire. Since Anadarko's loss in the season opener, the Warriors have won 17 of their last 18 games, including 15 straight.
Thanks to its menacing defense, turning opponents over seemingly every other possession, 'Darko is on a roll and playing like a true title contender in Class 4A as playoffs loom. Anadarko, which won three games in five days last week including a 56-23 blowout win over No. 13 Weatherford, has held its last six opponents to a mere 25 points per game.
Another title contender, Elgin, is approaching the showdown just as it has the entire season by not looking ahead.
"We have seen competition like this throughout our whole season," Elgin coach Brett Tahah said. "Our outlook on this game is the same it's been all year. Anadarko is the team in front of us and that's who we have to take care of."
Convincingly winning the Sweet Pea Tournament in Newcastle earlier this month and defeating a pair of ranked squads in doing so was the best way to rebound from a shocking one-point road loss to Elk City.
