Mac girls nip Piedmont in OT; boys fall
MacArthur headed to Piedmont on Tuesday for big matchups with playoff seeding implications.
In the end, one team in green and gold came home happy, the other less so.
The MacArthur girls were up by as many as 10 in the second half, but had to fight back to top Piedmont in overtime, 45-41.
Meanwhile, the boys were down by as many as 13 in the second half before storming back in the fourth quarter. But Sep Reese's 36 points were not enough as the Highlanders fell, 72-66.
Mac girls get OT win
Though he was elated to get a vital road win, Mac coach David Vann deflected any credit from himself.
"I didn't do a very good job coaching tonight. I give all my thanks to my assistant coaches," Vann said. "All the coaches did a good job tonight. If it wasn't for them, we probably would've lost."
In particular, Vann gave credit to assistant Deron Suttles, who mentioned that it would be wise for the Highlanders to switch to a high-low offense to attack the Wildcats' zone defense.
