A 27-year-old Lawton man was arrested for possession of a stolen handgun Friday after his suspicious behavior caught police attention.
LPD Sgt. Mike Spencer said that he saw the man walking from behind a business near Northwest 61st and Oak Avenue around noon and he approached the man. The man told Spencer he had a gun and was taken into protective custody, the report states.
The gun, a Hi-Point 9mm was discovered to have been reported stolen, Spencer said. A set of digital scales that the man said he used "to weigh his weed so he didn't get ripped off" was also confiscated, Spencer said. A background check of the man showed he'd been convicted of possession of controlled dangerous substances in 2007.
The man was arrested and booked into jail for charges of possession of a firearm after former conviction of a felony, possession of stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, Spencer said.
