A 21-year-old inmate who walked away from a Department of Corrections work detail is facing a felony charge for the escape.
An arrest warrant for Justin Lee Brown was executed Wednesday in Cotton County District Court for a felony count of escaping from DOC custody, according to court records. Brown had recently begun serving a two-year sentence for grand larceny and car theft after his Aug. 15 conviction in Okfuskee County District Court and was put into DOC custody on Sept. 25, according to court records.
Brown escaped from a work crew cleaning and maintaining a Duncan cemetery Monday, according to the affidavit. Brown had been taken to work in Duncan as a trusty on the Public Works Program and during the afternoon roll call was discovered missing, said Chief of Security Paul Lawrence. Escape procedures were initiated at 3 p.m. and, when the crew returned to Walters shortly before 5 p.m., Brown was nowhere to be found, according to the affidavit.
