The United Way of Lawton-Fort Sill is ahead of last year's fundraising efforts, having reached more than a third of its goal of $1.825 million.
United Way staff and volunteers gathered in the Gore Boulevard median Thursday to update the campaign thermometer as campaign chair John Noel, assistant chair Tara Deavours, and loan executive chair Gilmer Capps placed tape on the sign to show the campaign has reached 35 percent of its goal. So far the campaign has raised $638,750.
"We're about 5 percent ahead of where we were last year at this time," Noel said, and he hopes to wrap up the fundraising by Nov. 9.
