A motorcyclist was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital following a violent collision with a Lawton Public Schools bus on the city's southside Wednesday afternoon.
The unidentified man was first taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital and later flown in critical condition to OU Medical Center, according to emergency radio traffic. First responders were called to the intersection of Southwest 19th and N.H. Jones around 3:45 p.m. on the report that the biker had been run over by a school bus.
LPD Lt. Rondell Seratte said that the motorcyclist was driving southbound on Southwest 19th when it collided with the eastbound school bus. A yield sign at the intersection showed that the motorcycle had the right-of-way and Seratte said that the bus driver "may not have seen the motorcycle coming."
"He (motorcyclist) was in pretty serious condition when we sent him to the hospital," Seratte said.
LPD Sgt. Richard Wallace said that the 24-year-old Lawton man was in the Oklahoma City operating room at 7:15 p.m. The man's identity is not being released until his family is notified.
