GERONIMO Taking a pie in the face for a good cause has just escalated.
Geronimo Mayor Ed Mounts is volunteering not for a pie but rather to be "shot."
Finding money for various good causes can sometimes be a challenge, particularly for municipalities that rely on a very narrow funding base. Geronimo is no exception, so when it became apparent the town needed a new police car, Mayor Ed Mounts stepped up with a fundraising idea. He would be "shot" for a price.
"If you ever wanted the chance to shoot the mayor, here is your chance," he said. "We are going to sell raffle tickets and the winner gets to shoot me with a Taser gun at high noon during the Geronimo birthday celebration."
The birthday celebration is an annual event on the second weekend in September.
Tickets for the "privilege" are $5 apiece or five for $20 and may be purchased at City Hall during business hours.
It will be a real police stun gun, and Mounts said he will be "riding the lightning."
The weapon uses electrical current to cause strong involuntary muscle contractions that temporarily disable the target.
