ALTUS City Council members approved a consulting agreement with a retired attorney and setting of the city's wards and ward boundaries during a business meeting last week.
Members approved an agreement with retired municipal attorney John H. Vincent a former city attorney for Lawton as a consultant to the city attorney and council at a rate of $75 per hour plus expenses through June 30. He will assist with the drafting of a city charter and proposed changes to the form of government.
Members discussed the city's wards and ward boundaries. Following the discussion, they voted to continue the existing wards and boundaries intact, based on 2010 U.S. census population data.
The council also approved a special meeting for noon Feb. 22 to discuss the calling of an April 2 general election in which voters will decide on city council seats and drafting of a new city charter. Also approved was the setting of a filing period for candidates of the seats that will be on the ballot in that election.
