WAURIKA As the drought continues, water levels at Waurika Lake also continue to fall.
Due to low water levels, the Waurika Lake Marina has already closed the crappie house along with the fishing dock.
The Waurika Lake Marina has both an indoor and outdoor fishing area. The indoor fishing area, also known as the crappie house, is heated and accessible by wheelchair while the outdoor fishing area is equipped with handrails, but is not accessible by wheelchair.
These areas can be used only when the marina is in operation which is usually from early February through late November.
Operators of the marina have stated since the lake level is so low they are closing earlier in the season.
District Manager of the Waurika Lake Master Conservancy District, David Taylor said this is one of the difficulties of a dual purpose lake like Waurika.
"The two main purposes of the lake are flood control along with community and industrial water supply," Taylor said.
