FREDERICK The Frederick Arts Council will celebrate the 83rd birthday of the historical Ramona Theatre with the showing of "Gold Diggers of Broadway" at 2 p.m. Oct. 28.
Admission will be by donations. Cookies and punch will be served immediately following the show. Proceeds will go to the construction of a handicap ramp.
The theater was named for Ramona Beard, daughter of banker J.B. Beard, who financed its construction. The Ramona Theatre opened in October 1929 to the talking, dancing, singing picture of "Gold Diggers of Broadway." Admission on opening night was 50 cents for adults and 20 cents for children.
