Shoplifting suspect takes off in LPD car

Lawton police arrested a woman for shoplifting and again after she fled while handcuffed with a department cruiser Wednesday afternoon.

Officers were called to a shoplifting report shortly after noon at Aldi, 935 N. Sheridan. The suspect, a woman, was arrested and secured in an officer's police cruiser and, while the officer was outside the car speaking with witnesses, the woman maneuvered her handcuffs to the front, got into the driver's seat and fled the scene, said Sgt. Tim Jenkins, LPD information officer.

Officers found the car in the area of Cache Road near Liberty Lake shortly afterwards, along with the woman, who was taken into custody, Jenkins said. Along with petit larceny, he said she was booked for counts of reckless driving, escaping arrest, stolen motor vehicle, driver's license required and multiple other warrants.
