Man riding bike down street had machete in hand
A man who was riding a bicycle with a machete in hand Wednesday faces charges in Comanche County District Court.
Timothy A. Vasquez, 33, is charged with possession of a firearm after a prior felony conviction, a felony, as well as four other misdemeanors: methamphetamine possession, obstructing an officer and two counts of carrying weapons.
According to an affidavit filed in court, police were on their way to a call at Northwest 23rd Street and Lindy Avenue when they saw a man riding a bicycle and holding a machete, and they stopped to check on him.
The man pointed a sawed-off shotgun at police, who told him to "drop the gun and get on the ground" several times before he finally complied, the affidavit states.
When police searched him, they found brass knuckles and .410 shotgun shells in his pockets and 12.2 grams of methamphetamine in one of his socks, the affidavit indicates.
After running an Interstate Identification Index to review Vasquez' nationwide criminal history, authorities confirmed Vasquez to be a convicted felon who was wanted on Comanche County warrants, according to court records.
Vasquez remains in jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.
