Thanks all around
Somebody pinch me, this is August when we are usually battling 100-degree temperatures during the rodeo but the weather we had this year may be the best ever in the 79 years of the Lawton Rangers Rodeo.
The weather was simply perfect for the first three days of the professional rodeo and fans came out in large numbers to watch most of the big names in the sport.
"Way Back Wednesday" was another huge crowd and you could tell by the number of kids in the calf scramble that school hadn't started yet.
Thursday's crowd wasn't as large; however, the numbers seemed up from what past Thursday's have been.
And Friday the facility was almost at standing-room-only limits thanks to great fans and about 600 Fort Sill trainees.
But the true rodeo fans were the ones who turned out Saturday despite light rain falling and the forecast for more during the evening. During the grand entry and opening ceremonies there was light ran, but fans came prepared with umbrellas, trash bags, rainsuits and other coverings and seemed to be coping just fine.
Mother Nature must be a rodeo fan, too, because right as the first event started the rain stopped and the rest of the night was just perfect, dry and cool.
So, to all fans that turned out, this writer sends along thanks from myself and the Lawton Rangers, especially those who came out Saturday.
