Ike, LHS set for city battle
All three city schools are in action tonight, with two of them facing off for the first time this season.
Lawton High hosts Eisenhower tonight while MacArthur travels to Piedmont to face the Wildcats.
The LHS and Ike girls tip off at 6 p.m. with the boys starting at 7:30. The Mac girls will play at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys at 8 p.m.
Ike, LHS meet for first time this season
It was a strange phenomenon.
In each of the two meetings between Eisenhower and Lawton High last season, one school swept the boys and girls games. And each time, it was the home team who suffered defeat, with Ike boys and girls both losing close games to LHS at the Eagles' Nest last January before winning in Wolverine Gym on Lawton High's senior night.
The Eagles will try to keep that trend going tonight when they visit the north side of town.
Lawton High's girls team (3-8) is on a three-game losing skid and the road doesn't get any easier this week as they host the top-ranked team in Class 5A, the Eisenhower Eagles (10-3). For Otis Gentry's crew, it will be a tall order, but he also knows that Eisenhower overcame a slow start to make it all the way to the state tournament a year ago. With nine games remaining, the Wolverines could grab some much-needed momentum with an upset.
"This game will be the turning point of our season," Gentry said. "I know they play a full-court press defense. They execute good, they're sound. We're just going to have to protect the ball and play hard."
