Elgin girls make most of challenging schedule
It's the prime recipe for success.
That's what the Elgin girls basketball team has done so far in the first month of the season as the 10th-ranked Owls improved to 6-1 on the young season.
Oh, by the way, Elgin has gone an impressive 3-1 against top-5 ranked opponents.
"It's great to be challenged, Elgin coach Brett Tahah said. "I told the girls that we should be proud to go 3-1 this week. For us to come out 3-1, they shouldn't hang their heads."
In the Bison Invitational at Oklahoma Baptist University this weekend, Elgin finished runner-up, losing to second-ranked undefeated Dale (2A) in the championship game, 54-46.
"It was a playoff-type game in December," Tahah said. "It was great for us to see where we're at because that's a team that is gonna do something big in (Class) 2A this year. I believe they can go compete with a lot of bigger schools as well."
The title game was a tight match the whole way, even staying between three and five points in the fourth. But Elgin had to foul late to get back in it and Dale sealed the victory at the charity stripe.
