Freshmen building for future

Under the leadership of coach Lance Miles, the Eisenhower freshman team has recorded wins over Lawton High and MacArthur, claiming the city championship. Varsity coach Mike Burris took notice and played several freshmen during last week's win over Guymon.

Kevin Sovo, Cole Mason, David Rodriguez and Jason Payne all saw playing time in the victory and are likely to suit up for more varsity snaps throughout the year.

"It means you've got some good kids coming up," Burris said. "The future looks bright. There's a good bunch of 7th and 8th graders. You get all those kids together and keep them together, you get something going."

The coaches aren't the only ones who have noticed the exploits of the younger crop. The star quarterback of the varsity team, RJ Fisher, hopes the underclassmen can continue the tradition he and his fellow seniors are laying.

"I think the freshmen and the younger guys are doing a good job of kind of following our footsteps and how we've been working in practice," Fisher said.
