Register now for Waddle event
Online registration for the March of Dimes Waddle Run for Babies are encouraged now for the event that is set to step off at 7 p.m. Nov. 4 in Elmer Thomas Park, 501 NW Ferris.
Target goal for the fundraiser is $50,000. Registration fee is $15.
"Your registration fee also gets you a March for Babies T-shirt," said Laurie Applekamp, executive director of market development for March of Dimes. "It is a glow run, so all participants are encouraged to bring their own glow sticks, necklaces, etc. We will have some there, but it would be great to light the night for preemies everywhere."
Applekamp was raised in Lawton, attended MacArthur High School and graduated from Cameron University. Her only child, Tyler, was born a month too soon, so the mission is personal for her.
"To be able to come back home to Lawton, surrounded by friends and family in such a caring and giving community, is truly a joy and honor," she said.
The mission of March of Dimes is to prevent premature birth, birth defects and infant mortality.
