World War genealogy topic of SOGS meeting
"Discover Your World War I Soldier" will be the topic of the November meeting of the Southwest Oklahoma Genealogical Society.
The society will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. Monday in meeting room 2 of the Lawton Public Library, 110 SW 4th.
Dale Scott, a board member for the society, will be presenter. With the centennial of the end of World War I approaching, families are wishing to learn and commemorate their grandfathers who participated. Scott will help family members discover the records and sources available for documenting World War I service. Those records are relatively unknown and little used. Scott also will provide tips in using those records.
In researching World War I soldiers, the internet site FOLD 3 is valuable, according to a press release from the library. Draft registration cards are found on Ancestry.com. Both sites are searchable for free at the library. Home access to FOLD 3 is available to all library card holders. See the library's Circulation Department for a card.
