WONDERtorium is where kids can learn, explore, have fun
STILLWATER The Oklahoma WONDERtorium is a magical place where children up to age 12 can learn, explore and have fun in one location.
The WONDERtorium has many venues in one place to expand the mind and coordination of kids whose parents take them as early as a year old.
"We start kids out early with half-doors so parents can watch the kids and what they're doing," said Gay Washington, executive director of the museum. "Most of our exhibits are geared toward the 10- to 12-year-old interests. We also have partnered with (Oklahoma State University) and have camps for kids through middle-school age."
Washington said the museum began in 2002 as the Museum Without Walls and included traveling exhibits.
"There were 6,000 kids who got to see the traveling exhibits in 2017 alone, and most of them were in rural communities throughout all parts of Oklahoma," she said.
"Admission to the museum is $7 or you can buy a punch card that allows 10 visits for $50. There are different levels of memberships that allow large families to visit the museum. There is also the scholarship membership. A family will buy their tickets and are able to buy another family a ticket."
The venues include Amazing Airways, Artist's Pad, Discovery Diner, Forest Playground, The Generation Station Farm and Store, Gravity Wall, Imagination Playground, Kameoka Kids, which explores Japanese culture, Money-Go-Round, My Medical Center, Ramona Paul's Block Party, Water Works and WONDER Theater.
