Merry Christmas from Soundemonium
If you tuned into this and last week's "Today's Best Soundemonium!" with Steve Carr, a.k.a. Steve-O, and yours truly, you enjoyed our epic holiday treat. The Holly Jolly Christmas Specials featured fantastic Southwest Oklahoma talent. I want to thank every artist who participated and all who listened. You are each a gift.
The first show's playlist featured Signal 4's Jason & Amanda "Silent Night"; Robbie McMillan & Melvin Newton "Christmas With the Family"; Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers "Back Door Santa"; Hi-Way 62 "Please Come Home for Christmas"; Amanda Kidd & Steve O with Robbie McMillan and Melvin Anthony Newton on piano, "Baby, It's Cold Outside"; and Dannie Carson with Steve O "Oklahoma Christmas."
This week's Episode 2 "The Reckoning" included: Kwamel Smith "Silent Night"; Dave Laurence "Winter Wonderland"; Cade Roth "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas"; Paid In Spades "Punk Rudolph"; Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers "Blue Christmas"; Tito Lindsey "Let It Snow"; and Big Pete Piehnik with Jerry Groves, Dannie Carson and Steve O "Daddy Don't Get Drunk This Christmas."
Tito Lindsey dropped in to record his song as the last addition for this week's taping. Decked to the halls in his ugly Christmas sweater and a Santa hat, he delivered something better than fruitcake. You can have some fun with him and Dannie Carson at 9 p.m. Saturday at Red Dirt Reloaded Bar & Grill, 6425 Cache Road, for the Ugly Christmas Sweater Party. Cover is $5.
The DJ wrote, and together we shared, a tale of Christmas gratitude. I'd like to share it with you:
"'Twas Today's Best Soundemonium ..."
'Twas the week before Christmas, and all through L-Town
Music lovers wanted to hear some great sounds.
The blanket tent fort was hung with care
In hopes that musicians soon would play there;
Some people were drunkered passed out in their beds,
While visions of who knows what danc'd in their heads,
And Scott with his notepad, and I in the studio,
Had just conceived a brand new show
With all the great music out there in the world,
We wanted to bring it to more boys and girls.
So into the tent fort we flew with a purpose,
Trying to find a way to rhyme the word purpose.
So many dead celebrities in 2016,
Both of us shocked that it wasn't Charlie Sheen;
Then, with our eager ears we did hear
Band after band in our studios all year.
With a song and a story and lots of fun, of course,
And lest we forget the GREAT SOUND FORCE.
So much talent around here we wanted you to know,
So we lined up the best as guests on our show;
"Hey Dannie Carson, Big Pete, Sunlander and Deadcore!
Yo Chance Ballard, Backwash, Fyu-Chur and more:
Sissy Brown, Brad Good, Thanh Le & Oli Rey Ben (1GCrew), The Acoustic Yardsale, Komatryp, Horde Casket, Tito Lindsey & Red Dirt Rising, The (legendary) JuJu Beans, Just Strangers, Cade Roth & The Black Sheep, Allen Biffle Band, Lb. Salt, Cory Porter, Ricky Warren of The Cutthroat Bastards, Hi-Way 62, Paid in Spades, Southern Aggression, Wil Jones, Allusion, Ke'neesha Jones, Nacho Kart, Amanda Kidd, Ciera MacKenzie, Casey Abbe Band, Ken Morrow, Cross County Revenue, Signal 4, Robbie McMillan and Melvin Anthony Newton, Kwamel Smith, Dave Laurence, Dirty Red & The Soul Shakers, Smokey Motel and Takeez Meals!"
Week after week, show after show ...
The best local musicians would come and then go;
Leaving behind such musical gems
You'd want to hear again and again:
Country, Red Dirt, Metal and Rock,
Hip Hop, R&B, even folk and pop.
So many kinds of music we wanted to share,
The best local artists from here and from there.
They'd come and talk, have fun and play tunes
And let us know where they'd be playing soon.
But it wasn't just the chat and the music they'd play;
There was Jokey McJokerson's Joke of the Day,
Many mentions of "Star Wars," and that's always cool,
And we can't forget the BRADY DEATH POOL.
The mix tape we played was a mix of great tunes
We'd collected and saved over many moons.
Now looking ahead to the future of the show,
We know we have plenty more to go.
So thank you for listening to our little endeavor.
We feel like we could keep doing it forever.
It's Today's Best Soundemonium for one and all,
For the spring, summer, winter and fall.
You love your music and love it live,
Thanks to The Lawton Constitution and Magic 95.
The Scribe and the Jock also want you to know
We're just getting started; there's plenty more to go.
So we wish you a Merry Christmas, keep reaching for the sky,
And on behalf of all of us here ... OK, BYE!
I wish you all the spirit of my favorite Christmas track of all: nRamones "Merry Christmas, I Don't Want to Fight Tonight" https://youtu.be/4Y5GtaTrPHM.

"A rebel without a Claus."
