Jazz Ensemble will perform on Thursday

The Cameron University Department of Music will present its 38th annual Jazz Festival Thursday, featuring three university ensembles and three guest artists, under the direction of Justin Pierce and Doris Lambert.

The show, made possible by the Cameron University Lectures and Concerts Series, is provided at no cost to the public.

Guest artists are Rosanna Eckert, vocalist; Chris McGuire, saxophonist, clarinetist and trumpeter; and John Simon, percussionist.

Eckert teaches vocal jazz at the University of North Texas. She has performed on tour with the Grammy Award-winning vocal quartet "New York Voices" and released four solo albums. Eckert has also appeared with several jazz greats, such as Bobby McFerrin, Lyle Mays, Kenny Wheeler and Christian McBride.

McGuire is an adjunct professor of jazz studies at the University of North Texas. The multi-talented musician has performed with the Duke Ellington Orchestra and the Official Texas Jazz Orchestra.

Simon, a 1990 Cameron alumnus, is the music director and percussionist at Highland Park Methodist Church in Dallas. He has performed with the Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, Dallas Brass and many other bands in North Texas.
