CU will present 'An Evening with Mozart' Friday, Saturday
Cameron University will present "An Evening with Mozart" featuring performances by Cameron vocal students.
Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the McCutcheon Recital Hall.
"Mozart's operas are some of the best in the operatic repertoire," said Christian Morren, assistant professor of music. "As one of the greatest composers of opera, Mozart's works have stood the test of time. Cameron's opera workshop is not only a performance but an opportunity for students to develop skills in foreign languages such as Italian and German, music history, acting, costuming and score analysis. The class teaches the many aspects that go into putting on a production."
Student performers are Haleigh Adams, Lorenzo Butler, Codie Cowan, Tara Gill, Celita Gonzalez, Corbyn Nauman, Stephanie Sabol and Natasha Scharfenberg, all of Lawton; Gabriel Caron, Altus; Stacia Prucha, Comanche; and Reagan Williams, Newport, R.I.
The program will begin with "Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)" and "Cosi Fan Tutti (Women Are Like That)" and then move to "Don Giovanni," based on the story of Don Juan. The evening with conclude with Mozart's final opera, "Die Zauberflˆte (The Magic Flute)." The vocalists will be accompanied on piano by Doris Lambert.
Prior to the performance, Morren will present a pre-concert lecture at 6 p.m.
