CU Concert Band to perform with LHS Band Thursday

The Cameron University Concert Band will play a combined concert with the Lawton High School Band starting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Cameron University Theatre, 2800 W. Gore.

The Lawton High School drum line will kick off the concert, which will be followed by the CU Concert Band playing "Many Paths" by Australian composer Ralph Hultgren.

In the piece, Hultgren incorporates aleatoric techniques, which leaves some element of the composition up to the determination of the performers.

The composition, which also includes chanting and body percussion, is intended to depict the indigenous, historical and environmental aspects of the Mountains to Mangroves corridor, which lies north of Brisbane.

The CU Concert Band is conducted by Claudio Re.

Rob Miller, Lawton High School assistant band director, will be guest conductor for an arrangement of "Simple Gifts."

The Concert Band will conclude the opening portion of the program with "Mayflower Overture," a programmatic work by Ron Nelson.
