Cameron University Concert Band slates performance
The Cameron University Concert Band will be in concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the University Theatre.
The Cameron University Concert Band performs at a variety of events throughout the academic year. The group is conducted by Claudio Re, assistant professor, who joined the faculty this fall.
"One of the ongoing challenges for directors is to find repertoire that well fits the skills and size of his/her ensemble, as every band is different," Re said. "Rehearsing the music I selected for this concert allows me to better assess the strengths of the Cameron University Concert Band precious information I will use to plan for the spring."
That rehearsal "learning curve" is not one sided, according to Re.
"The program also offers students an opportunity to learn about me and my rehearsal technique. Communication is key when working in a collaborative environment."
Members of the Concert Band are students Kelsey Alden-Cox, Jordan Alexander-Cooper, Irmtraud Bryant, Anthony Gustave, Trent Hagood, Logan Hale, Jimmie Hinson, Brianna Mendenhall, Xavier Obregon, Shelley Perry, Diane Pihulic, Jafet Santos, Anna Southern, Jason Villareal, Katrina Zuber, all of Lawton; Joel Moncrief, Altus; Brittany Donley and Paul Martin, Cache; Edwin Supo, Fletcher; Dava Battiest, Duncan; Britinie Mendenhall, Elgin; and Steven Warden-Ivers, Perry. They are joined by faculty members J.D. Little and Karla Oty and local resident Douglas Bayless.
The concert will open with a rousing march, "Alte Kameraden" by German composer Karl Teike. A classic of the wind band repertoire, "Variations on a Korean Folk Song" by John Barnes Chance, will follow.
