Snyder man, 70, critical after wreck

A 70-year-old Snyder man was flown to an Oklahoma City hospital and admitted in critical condition after his pickup was struck by an oncoming tractor-trailer rig hauling cars Wednesday.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Johnnie Ray McElroy was admitted to OU Medical Center with leg, head and internal trunk injuries.

McElroy's Ford was parked on the shoulder of U.S. 62, 2/10-mile east of Paint Road, with his emergency flashers on around 1:45 p.m. when the tractor-trailer rig crossed the shoulder's fog line and struck it from behind, causing the Ford to roll an undetermined amount of times before coming to rest in a ditch, Trooper Dalas Anderson reported. After impact, the semi swerved across the westbound lanes and crossed the center median in a broadslide before coming to rest. The semi's front axles busted, leaving the vehicle immobile and closing westbound traffic into the evening.
