Sill soldier accused of raping Walters teenager
A 24-year-old Fort Sill soldier is in jail after being charged with raping and impregnating a then-14-year-old girl.
According to court documents, testing of the child born to the girl identified the suspect with 99.999 percent certainty that he is the father.
Cameron Alan Spatara made his initial appearance Wednesday in Cotton County District Court charged with two counts of second-degree rape, records indicate. He faces up to 15 years in prison for each count.
Spatara is accused of having unprotected sex with the girl twice, once in November 2016 and once in December 2016, when he was 23. Walters police learned of the incidents in January 2017 after the girl's mother and her then 5-weeks pregnant daughter reported the crime, according to an affidavit. The mother said Spatara, an active-duty soldier and Geronimo volunteer firefighter, was "supposedly a good family friend" and was allowed to stay in his own bed at the family home. The teen said they'd had sex twice, that it was consensual both times and that no drugs or alcohol were involved.
Police contacted Spatara that night by phone and he said he would come in for an interview. When he didn't, police contacted his commanding officer and he was taken to the Cotton County Sheriff's Office shortly after midnight. He first denied having sex with the girl. Later, he said he climbed into her bed while drunk and woke up with his pants off and in a sexual situation, the affidavit states .He said there was a second incident but didn't provide details. He was taken back to Fort Sill.
