Man's body found with overturned boat at lake

A 73-year-old Texas man died Monday afternoon after his boat overturned on Waurika Lake.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol Marine Enforcement Division reported that Darwin Wayne Smith, of Arlington, was pronounced dead at the scene by the state medical examiner. The cause of death is pending autopsy. His body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Oklahoma City for investigation.

Smith was operating an aluminum flat-bottomed jon boat shortly before 4:30 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, the boat overturned about a half-mile southeast of the Wichita Ridge boat ramp, Trooper Mark Smith reported. The man was wearing a personal floatation device, but the cloudy and windy weather may have made the man's recovery from being dumped in the water more difficult.
