‘Largest book sale ever’ plan authored in Elgin
ELGIN - The Friends of the Elgin Community Library will host what they are calling the "largest book sale ever" this weekend.
"We definitely think this is going to be the largest we've ever had," said Jeanne Cook, a member of the Friends of the Elgin Community Library. "We've got a storage building full of books and I'm having to take donated books and load them in my garage until the sale."
The sale will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Connection Church, 102 NE Windy Road. Paperback books will be available for 50 cents, hardbacks will be $1 and premium books will be slightly more. Cooke said the sale will offer even more children and youth books than usual, history and especially science fiction, in addition to other genres. All of the books have been donated by members of the community throughout the year. The library has never seen so many books donated in such a short time, especially in the science fiction genre.
"I'm not exaggerating when I say we had 600 sci-fi books donated for the sale," Cooke said. "We had two different estates that donated a bunch of books and the Elgin Middle School Student Council did a book drive for us and donated a whole bunch. We're eternally grateful to them."
