El Reno tops Fort Cobb, wins Classic
ANADARKO Callen Haydon scored 20 points, leading El Reno to a 61-59 win over Fort Cobb-Broxton marking the Class 5A No. 3 Indians' third consecutive Anadarko MidFirst Warrior Classic championship.
Cameron Hines scored a game-high 22 points but it wasn't enough to help Class A No. 1 Fort Cobb avoid the same fate as last year. The Warriors lost a barnburner to El Reno in the 2015 finals, and Monday was no different. The teams were tied 26-26 at halftime and breathed down each other's next in the final minutes.
Fort Cobb trailed 48-43 after giving up 22 points in the third quarter, but climbed back in it as Hines went 7 of 7 from the foul line he finished 12 of 12 and scored nine points in the fourth. Greyden Steinmetz finished with 17 points, hitting a late 3 to help the Mustangs' late charge.
El Reno wouldn't be denied, though. Haydon, who thrilled in last year's finals with 26 points, scored seven points in the fourth to lead the Indians down the stretch.
Kellen Hines scored 11 points for Fort Cobb and Cache Clift chipped in four.
Fort Cobb went 14 of 15 from the foul line for the game.
