Cyril remains unbeaten
CYRIL Undefeated Cyril used the first-half passing of Cason McLemore and the running of Colten Camp to run up a 30-0 lead before coasting home in the second half with a 44-14 victory over Ryan at Wendell Whitman Field on Friday night.
McLemore hooked up twice with Jake Toahty on fourth-down touchdown passes to stake the Pirates to a 16-0 lead. Camp rushed for 56 yards in the opening half including a 10 yard touchdown run that added to the lead.
After forcing a Ryan punt on its initial possession of the game, Cyril took over on its own 19. The Pirates proceeded to march 81 yards on 12 plays to score while using up over five minutes of the quarter.
After 12 plays, Cyril faced a fourth-and-10 from the Cowboy 37. McLemore rolled to his right and fired a pass into the end zone that Toahty was able to haul in for the touchdown. McLemore passed to 6-7 tight end Dayken Rackley for the two-point conversion to lead 8-0.
The Pirates forced a three-and-out on Ryan's next possession, taking over on their own 39 with 2:17 left in the opening period.
This time it took 10 plays to cover 61 yards. The big play of the drive was a 20-yard run by Camp that put the ball at the Cowboy 25. Later, after getting a first down at the 11, the Pirates faced a fourth-and-four from the five when McLemore hit Toahty again for a TD. McLemore's run made it 16-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Cyril forced yet another three-and-out on Ryan's next offensive try that forced the Cowboys to punt from their own 10.
Taking over at the Ryan 46, the Pirates began another scoring march. Camp contributed heavily, running for 11 yards to the Cowboy seven. After a three-yard loss on first down, Camp swept left end for 10 yards into the end zone to up the lead to 22-0.
