Cooper, Harris lead Central to B-4 win
CENTRAL HIGH Central High running backs Hayden Cooper and Matt Harris combined for 362 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the Bronchos past Fox, 56-30 in a key District B-4 contest here Friday night.
The Bronchos used a single back ground offense almost exclusively, throwing the ball only five times all night. Central put it in the air only once in the second half.
Central High remains undefeated in district play and will travel to Ryan next Friday to determine the district winner. The win clinched a home playoff game for the Bronchos. With the win, The Bronchos move to 6-3 on the season, 4-0 in district play. Fox falls to 2-7, 2-2.
Cooper ran for 207 yards on 22 carries, 118 of those yards coming in the third quarter to help break a open a tight, 2-point lead at halftime. He scored three touchdowns. Harris picked up 155 yards on 19 carries and tallied five TDs.
Central led 26-24 at halftime, the game going back and forth in the first 24 minutes. The Bronchos took the second half kickoff, drove 60 yards in four plays to build the lead to 10, and never looked back.
The four plays were divided between Cooper and Harris. Cooper ran for nine on the first play. Harris ran for nine and 22 on the next two plays before Cooper finished things off with a 20-yard romp over right tackle for the touchdown. He also ran for the two-point conversion to make the score 34-24 with 10:48 left in the third period.
Alex Allen recovered a fumble at the Central High 14 on a third down play to stop a Fox drive and start the next Broncho possession.
