Chargers rip Bulldogs

CACHE - Undefeated Heritage Hall (9-0, 6-0) rode the right arm of quarterback Blake Adams to a 33-14 District 4A-1 win over Cache (5-4, 2-4) Friday at Ulrich Stadium.

Adams riddled the Cache secondary for 278 yards and five touchdowns to propel the Chargers to their ninth straight win of the 2016 season. Wide receiver Santana Randle was Adams' favorite target, catching 11 of Adams' passes for 203 yards and four TDs.

Despite the loss, the Bulldogs still have a chance to make the playoffs when they host Newcastle Friday. The Bulldogs will need some help from other teams, but there is a way for them to share fourth and get the playoff berth via the point system.

The Bulldogs came out fired up to start the game as the two teams battled to a scoreless tie after one quarter of play. However, things began to happen quickly in the second 12 minutes.

After forcing a Cache punt from deep in its territory on the first possession of the second period, Heritage Hall took over on the Bulldog 44.

A 26-yard run by Bryce Soberanis took the ball to the 18 before a four-yard loss on the next play gave the Chargers a second-and-14 at the 22. Adams then went to Randle for six yards to the 16. On third down Adams hit Zane Wade on a slant play over the middle for a 16-yard touchdown. Callahan Walker booted the conversion to make it 7-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

On the next Bulldog possession, Garrett McGinnis picked off a Jayden Garcia pass and returned it six yards to the Cache 48. After a downfield holding penalty, Heritage Hall faced a first-and-12 from the 50. An incompletion on first down was followed by a 50-yard heave to Randle in the end zone for the first of his TD catches. A missed kick left the score at 13-0 with 8:46 left in the second quarter.
